Nelapattu Bird Sanctuary

Nelapattu Bird Sanctuary is located 20 km away from Pulicat Lake along the East Coast in the Nellore District. It is easily approachable from the city of Nellore and also from Chennai, which lies only 50 km away from the bird sanctuary. 


This sanctuary is famous as the breeding ground for several rare species of birds. Some endangered bird species that thrive inside this bird sanctuary are the little cormorant, painted stork, white-ibis and spotted billed pelican. The best season to visit Nelapattu Bird Sanctuary is between the months of October and March which is one of the best seasons for bird watching.



During this period every year a festival called flemingo festival is celebrated here. Many events takes place like entertainment programs such as dancing,singing,cultural activities.

Birds come and build their nests on the trees between october and november,During november to december they lay eggs and start incubating.
Egg hatching will be done in the period of december to january after that these birds feed their chicks and leave nelapattu at the time of april.

By Air : The nearest airport is thirupathi which is 67km away.
By Bus : You can reach sullurpet from tirupathi bus station,Gudur bus station.
By Train : Nearest railway station is Naidupeta/sullurpeta which is 13 km away.
